Acer's budget-price lineup of Aspire One netbooks traces its history back to 2008, and though the selection isn't as robust as it once was, the Taiwanese tech company still offers the Aspire One A114 laptop with a 1.1-gigahertz quad-core Intel Celeron processor, 4 gigs of DDR3 RAM, 32 gigabytes of flash memory and Windows 10 at retail in 2018.

Throughout the portable's history, a wide variety of Aspire One models have run on both Windows and Linux platforms, so if you're ready to give your netbook a fresh start, the process varies a bit depending on the operating system. In any case, you're just a few clicks away from having a factory fresh Aspire One – except for those Cheeto crumbs in the keyboard. Those are on you.
Reset Acer Laptop on Windows 10
Acer's own included Care Center software offers the quickest way to reset an Acer laptop to factory defaults if you're running Windows 10. If you've somehow lost the software along the way, Acer offers it for free download at their official site (and it works for Windows 8, too).
Just pop open the Acer Care Center and type 'recovery' in the search box, then click 'Acer Recovery Management.' Next to the 'Reset your PC' option, hit 'Get Started.' When you're ready to commit, select 'Remove everything' and then 'Just remove my files.' This will keep the operating system and default software intact while removing your personal stuff – so don't forget to make a backup before you start.
On Windows 8.1
While Acer Care Center's recovery management options work just as well on Windows 8 as they do on Windows 10, you have another (arguably easier) option for restoring your Windows 8-equipped Aspire One to factory settings.
Power down the Aspire One completely, which you can do by pressing and holding the power key for 5 seconds, then turn it back on. When the familiar Acer logo appears onscreen, press and hold the 'Alt' and 'F10' keys simultaneously until a blue screen appears. Think of these keys as the Acer Aspire One reset button.
From the blue screen, click 'Troubleshoot' and then 'Reset your PC' to erase all of your data and restore the Aspire One to factory setting. Alternatively, you can choose 'Refresh your PC' to reset the device to factory settings while retaining your data.
On Linux
As you might expect, the process to reset an Acer laptop is a little different if your netbook shipped with Linux on board. You'll need the recovery disc included with the Aspire One as well as an external USB optical disc drive, as the Aspire One does not include a DVD drive.
Once you've got your supplies, turn off the computer and connect the DVD drive to the Aspire One's USB port. Turn the computer on and press and hold 'F12' when the Acer logo appears until you enter the boot menu. From here, select the USB optical drive and press 'F10,' then click 'Exit Saving Changes' and 'Install – Acer Aspire One.' This brings you to the Acer Recovery Management screen, where you can complete the factory reset process by following the onscreen prompts, just as you would when using the Acer Care Center on Windows 10.
If you don't have an external disc drive handy, you can also create a recovery USB drive using a separate computer with a disc drive. Insert the recovery disc and a USB flash drive into the computer and choose 'Create Recovery USB Drive' from the menu. Click 'Next' and choose the flash drive when prompted to select a partition, then wait for the data to copy from the disc to the drive.
After the data is copied, insert your new USB recovery drive into your Acer Aspire One's USB port, power it up and press 'F12' as the Acer logo appears to enter the boot menu. Select 'USB HDD: USB Flash Drive,' press enter, then press 'F10' and click 'Exit Saving Changes.' This opens Acer Recovery Management. Click next and leave the software set to the default partition, 'Whole Disk 1 /dev/sda/' and click 'OK.' This performs a full factory reset for settings and data – once it's done, remove the USB drive and restart your computer.
