- edited May 2015Hi
Iirc- Red means Hacks and Pick can mean duplicates or partial/empty files.
I used to use a Sims 2 Hack Conflict Detection Utility but it won't work with the UC.
You'd have to change The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection folder in Documents/EA Games to The Sims 2 for the program to see this version. If you change the name of the folder, after checking with the program, you can hit undo to put the original name back. Then remove any conflicting programs/hacks/mods/CC.
But, it's an old program.
You could just move half of you new DL content to your desktop (new folder) and then switch the half to see if the problem is still there.
I put all my mods/hacks in one folder and new stuff in a Testing folder to find it easier if there's any problems. - edited May 2015How do I uninstall .sims2packs? I'm currently in the process of deleting all recently downloaded lots/cc using Delphy's Download Organizer.
Jeez - I got rid of 586MB and 1391 files in one session. No wonder why it was crashing like crazy. Add that to a town filled with huge, long lots and you've got yourself a freezefest. - edited May 2015How do I uninstall .sims2packs? .sim2packs usually install everything to your downloads folder. The exception is lots, those go to your teleport folder. I usually delete lots I don't want ingame (there's a trash can in the lot bin) because nothing is named in any kind of recognizable way in the teleport folder. On a somewhat related note, do not ever delete a sim ingame from your sim bin using that trash can because you will corrupt your hood and once you've done that, it's all over for your hood.
And in case you didn't already know, you can use subfolders in the TS2 download folder. It really helps find bad cc/hacks if you have subfolders for things like 'hacks' and 'clothes' and whatever that already know work well and a subfolder for 'new' or 'testing' so bad cc is easy to track down. I also use a custom test hood where I try out new mods/lots before I dump them into my real hood, that way I don't risk ruining my actual game with some poorly coded mod or junk lot, but that's just because I have some older neighborhoods I'm not willing to risk going up in flames.
Good luck. Most of the time, hunting bad cc is a matter of pulling everything out of your downloads folder and slowly adding things back in until you find which item is causing a conflict/issue.
Edit - now I can't remember if lots go into the teleport folder or the lots folder. Sims might go into the teleport folder. It's been so long and I've got my own ways of fiddling with stuff. Either way, they will be named xyz123456sspppaqqq regardless, so I don't bother with trying to find them in their folders. - edited May 2015I removed every piece of cc that was downloaded with the lots (which I bulldozed), I was able to go to a lot with no problem, but going back home caused the game to crash. I really don't know what I should do, my game was running fine before I added those lots.
I guess I learned my lesson about carelessly downloading junk. In my defense, I am not aware of any cc testing tool like Sims 3 does.
Do you think it might have caused corruption? And is there any other way to fix it than reinstalling/repairing it? My Origin does not work properly so yeah.0 - I removed every piece of cc that was downloaded with the lots (which I bulldozed), I was able to go to a lot with no problem, but going back home caused the game to crash. Yeah. CC is a different bird with TS2 and lots of the lessons are unfortunately taught the hard way.
If you are attached to the hood in some way, there are ways to go about fixing things with SimPE or using Pescados bat box, but it's really hard to tell unless you've done some known thing to corrupt your hood (like delete a sim from the sim bin) until it starts showing itself. If your game is crashing when you enter a lot, I would say that you probably downloaded something that conflicted with what you already had and it caused some nasty problem that may not be worth trying to fix - again, unless your hood is really important to you, in which case you may have to settle in for a while .
If it's one of the main hoods that came with the game (Pleasantview, Belladonna Cove, ect), you don't have to reinstall anything. You can go into your C:UsersPublicDocumentsEA GamesThe Sims™ 2 Ultimate Collection location and delete the hood from the 'Neighborhoods' folder. Next time you start the game, it will regenerate the hood like it's was the very first time, so it essentially 'resets' the hood. You can also delete the Neighborhoods folder itself and the next time you start the game, it will regenerate all the hoods like it was the first time. Obviously, this doesn't work with custom hoods, if you delete them, there's no getting them back.
If you've done any building that you want to keep before you blast your hood, you can package the lots and they will show up in your C:UsersPublicDocumentsEA GamesThe Sims™ 2 Ultimate Collection packages folder. You can reinstall them into other hoods using clean installer. Personally, I don't ever install anything that is highlighted red in clean installer because I don't know what version of mods the people building lots used, so I don't trust it. I always install my own mods.
Let us know what you decide to do. I've broken TS2 in every conceivable way (as have most long time players) and I'm sure someone can help. - I filtered my cc and added only what I needed, launched the game and BAM. All my neighborhoods are gone, I only have the option to make one. I followed a tutorial and managed to get them back, but at their original form. Good thing I backuped my neighborhoods not long ago, so I can restore them.

You've been officially initiated
I'm sorry you had to deal with it, but thank goodness for backups! - edited May 2015@Seamoan
I deleted the new Neighborhoods folders and replaced them with my backups... yet when I go ingame I still have the basic ones? Where are all my simmies.0 - @xBob18 Do you have your backups still? I would go into the Neighborhoods folder and delete all your folders and then paste your backup folders back in.

I'll try that - thanks.
Nope.. they're not here. I'm losing hope.
This is the second time this has happened in the span of 6 months.0 - edited May 2015@Seamoan

@xBob18 - go into one of your backup neighborhood folders, one that you know you played and added sims, and look in the 'characters' folder. See how many items there are - these are your sims.
Now go into your game neighborhood folders and do the same thing for the same hood you looked at in your backup folder.
Is the number of sims the same in both spots or does one folder have more sims than the other?
Edited: If they are the same number, what is that number? - @Seamoan
Wait! I just realized I have TWO Sims 2 folders in EA Games. One of them has the trademark (and my neighborhoods) and the other one (without the trademark) is a fresh game. What should I do? Should I delete one of them?0 - edited May 2015@xBob18 that's your problem. You need to delete one of them. Figure out which one is loading when you start the game. A good way to tell is if one of the folders has more subfolders than the other one, the one with all the subfolders is the one that's loading, the one with a couple subfolders (downloads, teleport and neighborhoods usually) is not loading. Then copy the subfolders you want from the one not loading into the one that is loading. This will work.
TS2 UC tends to create another folder for some reason and it can mess with automatic installers (like clean installer) because it doesn't know which folder to add to and so it just picks one and creates the subfolder it thinks it needs to drop the file into.
Edited to add: the trademark in the name doesn't matter at all. The game will recognize the right folder regardless of if the trademark is in the name or not. - edited May 2015@Seamoan
One of them has just slightly less subfolders than the other (21 vs. 24). They both have my old Neighborhoods, Collections, and Downloads folders. So I guess either one is safe to delete?0 - @xBob18 - cut the one with 21 subfolders and paste it onto your desktop. Then load the game with the 24 subfolders. That should be correct, but if it's not, swap them out and try again.
Also, you may want to delete your .cache files in the folder you are loading to make sure no bad cc junk is lingering there. - @Seamoan
Neither of them worked... *sigh* I think the game hates me.0 - @xBob18 - wow, really. So when you loaded them each separately, did they both load and have the default game hoods? If so, pick one of them to load and try to add your backup neighborhoods all over again like you did in the very beginning - by deleting the original subfolders out and adding yours into the Neighborhood folder.
Otherwise, do you think there's a chance that you accidentally deleted your backups and have been switching in the default game hoods thinking they were your hoods? - @Seamoan
I know which hoods are mine, since I have many custom worlds. And I'll try that, although I'm getting disheartened.0 - @xBob18 - don't worry, you should be able to get them back if you know you have the right backups. It's just a matter of fiddling with it until you can find the right combination.
- @Seamoan
OMG! THEY'RE BACK!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU1 - Yes, I'm back. I (thankfully) got all my neighborhoods back (including my legacy in Pleasantview) but there's just one problem... Belladonna Cove has entirely disappeared, but I didn't notice it because I was too busy with Pleasantview. I tried all the tutorials to 'get' your neighborhood back since the game will generate a new one anyway, but it's not showing up. I still have the E001 folder in Neighborhoods, so that's weird. My two favorite sims lived there. (the ones in my signature).0
- have you right clicked in origin and repaired your game?free the sims!
<<sims 2 dane cook creepy work guy. hilarious! - @seVenpeaceloVe Origin doesn't launch for me. I have no idea why, its been this way since February.0
- Wow @xBob18, I can't believe this happened to you again! I can imagine how stressful it all is, especially if you have put a lot of work into your game and you think you will never get it back.
When my Sims 2 game stopped working for whatever reason well over a year ago, I used to think of the years of work and all the Sims in my save that I would never see again . So many tears.
Thank god for UC,even though I thought they wouldn't give it to me because I missed it last year when they released it. I'm too scared to add any more CC in case something bad happens, think I will stick with what I've got already.0 - @joleaco I'm pretty sure Origin's Repair Game feature will fix it (since I heard it generates all missing files) but Origin stopped working for me a long time ago. I don't particularly care about my loss because I can recreate them easily but I loved going through their memories from the second they moved in till now. I have Belladonna Cove in my Megahood anyways.
*sigh* this is gonna be tough...1

- Okay, the squiggly lines in the thought bubbles isn't always a sign of doom nor is it from a mod. There are some memories in the game which aren't done well so those come up. I don't remember which or why or how to fix-- I don't fix it. I know one is from cleaning up after a fire....
I used Sims 2 Hack Conflict Detection Utility program from Paladin's Place but it doesn't like UC... http://www.simwardrobe.com/
I rename the folder in Documents/EA Games to The Sims 2 and then run it. Don't forget to rename (undo) it before playing.
But I'll suggest modthesims if you don't want to mess with folders or it doesn't work for you. - I've never seen that before. But, I can recommend clean installer for CC http://modthesims.info/d/409950. I haven't used it since installing UC, but it worked fine before.
I would recommend SimPE to delete or alter memories because it has that ability, BUT it hasn't properly displayed memories for me since installing UC, so I don't know if it's still possible to use that feature.
Sorry I'm not really offering much help.
